The classic “elite college football team could beat this garbage NFL team” debate is back, and it involves two teams in Ohio.
Public Polling Policy recently conducted an Ohio poll that mostly consisted of questions about the 2016 presidential election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
There were two sports questions, though, and 62 percent of participants in the poll said they believe the Ohio State Buckeyes would beat the Cleveland Browns, compared to just 23 percent of respondents who believe Cleveland would emerge victorious.
The Browns are bad. We know that. They are 0-4 (but easily could be 2-2) and probably will be 0-5 after Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots in Tom Brady’s return from his Deflategate suspension.
But the Browns have more skill, depth and size than the Buckeyes. How? They are an NFL team. It’s not hard to figure out.
The Buckeyes look great this season. They’re 5-0 and have scored 45 or more points in four of their five games. That said, four of Ohio State’s wins have come against bad teams — Tulsa, Bowling Green, Indiana and Rutgers.
Until Ohio State plays a full season and beats Michigan, let’s pump the brakes on the Buckeyes-Browns comparisons.
