Packers Release Knile Davis Two Weeks After Acquiring Him From Chiefs

UPDATE (6 p.m. ET): Knile Davis’ days with the Green Bay Packers officially are over.

ORIGINAL STORY: If you blinked, you probably missed the Knile Davis era in Green Bay.

The Packers released Davis on Monday, a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. The move comes less than two weeks after Green Bay traded for the veteran running back.

The Packers acquired Davis from the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 18 in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick after losing running backs Eddie Lacy and James Starks to injuries. Davis saw just five carries in two games with Green Bay, though, as the Packers’ offense instead has relied on quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a pass-heavy approach.

Davis spent his first three-plus seasons with the Chiefs after the team selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old rushed for a career-high 463 yards and totaled seven touchdowns (six rushing and one receiving) during the 2014 campaign.
