Penn State Kicker Hit With Another Cheap Shot, As Worrying Trend Grows

Joey Julius officially is in the crosshairs of Big Ten opponents.

The Penn State kicker was the victim of a cheap shot Saturday in his team’s 38-14 win over Maryland. Isaiah Davis floored Julius after a kickoff play already was over, earning himself an ejection and the eternal scorn of Nittany Lions fans.

Davis’ hit on Julius marks the second consecutive week that an opponent has targeted the popular Penn State kicker. Minnesota’s Jaylen Waters did the honors last week, sparking a near fracas between the teams.

Julius, who stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 260 pounds, has dished out a few big hits of his own this season. Opponents apparently have set out to see if he can take similar punishment.

Referees and officials have the responsibility of ensuring the shots against Julius don’t cross the line, as they have in the past two weekends.
