BOSTON — Sunday marks the end of an era for the Red Sox.
David Ortiz will play his final regular-season game Sunday when Boston faces the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. The 40-year-old designated hitter’s final year has been a career one, as Ortiz is batting .317 with 38 home runs, 127 RBI, a 1.028 OPS and 48 doubles, the latter two of which lead Major League Baseball.
Ortiz will bat cleanup Sunday.
Shortstop Xander Bogaerts will be back in the No. 6 hole, and Brock Holt will start at third base and bat second. Andrew Benintendi also will start in left field and bat ninth with right-hander Aaron Sanchez on the mound for the Blue Jays.
David Price will start for Boston after a rough outing in New York in which he gave up six runs and three homers to the Yankees over 6 1/3 innings. The left-hander could be limited Sunday, though, as he’ll start Game 2 of the Red Sox’s upcoming American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians.
