Yoenis Cespedes has hopes for an even larger contract than his current one when the free-agent market opens after the World Series.

The New York Mets outfielder will opt out of his contract, reports Fanrag’s Jon Heyman. This means Cespedes will give up the two years and $47.5 million left on his deal.

It seems Cespedes, who just turned 31, is looking for one final major payday before he exits the prime of his career. It makes sense for a player of his age and caliber to give up some guaranteed short-term money with the hope of receiving more long-term financial security.

Cespedes played a crucial role in the Mets returning to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 16 years. He batted .280 with 31 home runs, 86 RBIs and a .354 on-base percentage this season.

He’ll join a group of unrestricted free agent hitters that could include Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista and Mark Trumbo.
