Even when the New York Jets earn a rare win, they find a way to stir up some controversy.

Such was the case Sunday after New York’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens, which improved the team to 2-5. The Jets rolled with Geno Smith at quarterback over Ryan Fitzpatrick after Fitzpatrick’s brutal game last week.

But when Smith exited the game with a knee injury in the second quarter, the team was forced to turn back to Fitzpatrick, and the veteran QB delivered, going 9 of 14 for 120 yards and a passing touchdown to lead New York to a 24-16 win.

After the game, Fitzpatrick sounded off on the Jets’ decision to start Smith over him.

Fitzpatrick has been in the league for more than a decade and never has been afraid to speak his mind, but these are bold comments even by his standards.

So, what will New York do about its quarterback in Week 8? Smith told reporters he’ll undergo an MRI on his knee but indicated he wants to start next week against the Cleveland Browns.

Fitzpatrick outplayed Smith, who completed 4 of 8 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown Sunday, but the 33-year-old Harvard graduate has been anything but consistent this season and already has 11 interceptions through six games.

No matter who they choose in Week 8, it appears the Jets have a nice mess on their hands at QB.
