The NFL has rewarded Tom Brady for his dominant post-suspension debut.
The New England Patriots quarterback on Wednesday was announced as the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week after he tore apart the Cleveland Browns’ defense Sunday in his regular-season debut.
Brady, suspended for New England’s first four games, showed no signs of rust against the Browns, completing 28 of 40 passes for 406 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in a 33-13 Patriots win.
“I tried to go out there and do the best I can do,” the veteran QB said after the game. “That’s what I try to do every week. It’s what I always try to do. I know my teammates expect that of me, and that’s what I expect out of them. I expect them to be focused and be able to do their job and focus on what they need to do. That’s what they expect out of me.”
Brady now has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors 26 times in his career, second-most in NFL history behind Peyton Manning (27).
The Patriots host the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
