Trevor Bauer’s injury prevented him from finishing his start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, but it didn’t stop him from typing away to all his haters.
The Cleveland Indians starter injured the pinkie on his throwing hand while fixing a drone, causing him to miss his outing in Game 2 of their American League Championship Series against the Blue Jays. The right-hander was back on the mound in Game 3, but he was pulled after just two outs and 21 pitches when his finger literally started bleeding all over the place.
The fans around the dugout at Rogers Centre apparently weren’t being too nice to Bauer during the game, so he took a second to remind them what the score of the series was after the Indians took the 4-2 win.
But Bauer’s response to the taunts of the Blue Jays fans didn’t make them very happy, so they took to Twitter to let him know. Unfortunately for them, Bauer had plenty to say in return.
It all started with this tweet, where Bauer acknowledged the “ovation” he received from Toronto fans, which he believed was meant to be a jeer.
Blue Jays fans responded in droves, and many weren’t very nice. Bauer took it all in stride, though.
And that’s only a sampling.
There were plenty of Blue Jays fans who were supporting Bauer, too, and it’s probably because he makes some good points. Playing with a drone isn’t an activity most would view as “dangerous,” and it really was just a freak accident. Bauer also isn’t being outright mean or malicious in his tweets like some of the fans were.
The fact that Bauer is pretty good at trolling doesn’t hurt, either.
The Indians have a chance to sweep the series Tuesday at 4:08 p.m. in Toronto.
