“The Office” was a great show, and Joe Maddon is a great baseball manager. But the similarities between the two apparently go well beyond that.

Before first pitch between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians for Game 3 of the World Series on Friday, the Cubs manager took a few questions from the assembled media at Wrigley Field, including one about which person has influenced his managerial style the most.

His answer?

“Michael Scott,” he said, via For The Win. “Probably the biggest influence. That’s ‘The Office’ for those that don’t watch TV.”

The regional manager of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is known for dispensing sage advice, so we don’t blame Maddon for drawing on him for inspiration.
