Ben Roethlisberger Considers Cowboys, Not Patriots, NFL’s Best Team

In Ben Roethlisberger’s mind, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the No. 1 team in the NFL on Sunday. And no, they didn’t play the New England Patriots.

The Steelers fell instead to the Dallas Cowboys in a 35-30 thriller, dropping Pittsburgh to 4-5 and improving Dallas to 8-1.

Roethlisberger called out his squad following the loss, and in an appearance Wednesday on Pittsburgh’s 92.3 The Fan radio station, the Steelers quarterback was asked to follow up on those comments. In doing so, he revealed who he believes is the cream of the NFL crop.

“If one little piece of the puzzle is out of place, the whole picture is messed up or the whole picture can be,” Roethlisberger said, via CBSSports.com. “When you’re playing the best team in the NFL, which we played last Sunday, you can’t afford to miss those little details.”

In case you thought that was a one-off comment, Roethlisberger again called the Cowboys the NFL’s best later in the interview.

“If there is ever a silver lining to take out of a football game, which a loss is a loss and that will eat all of us up and chew us all up, is that’s probably the best team in football and we fought our butts off,” he said.

Of course, the Cowboys do have the NFL’s best record, as the Patriots stand at 7-2 after losing to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. The Steelers did lose to New England 27-16 in Week 7, but Roethlisberger didn’t play in that game due to injury.

Some Patriots fans might disagree with Roethlisberger’s opinion, as the Cowboys haven’t had the toughest schedule so far and are relying on the success of two rookies in Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. But through Week 10, Dallas looks like the team to beat, and the Patriots might have to wait until February to prove Roethlisberger wrong.
