Between The Tackles: While Rams Fell From Grace, Patriots’ Dynasty Was Born

by Michaela Vernava

Fifteen years ago, the New England Patriots upstaged the “Greatest Show on Turf,” beating the then-St. Louis Rams to claim the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl victory. For the Patriots, it was the beginning of a dynasty. For the Rams, the show was over.

While welcoming the now-Los Angeles Rams to Gillette Stadium for a Week 13 showdown, the Patriots will also —fittingly— celebrate the anniversary of the momentous occasion with a reunion of the Super Bowl XXXVI team during a halftime ceremony.

In this week’s “Between the Tackles,” NESN.com’s Michaela Vernava talks with Patriots beat writers Doug Kyed and Zack Cox about the inception of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era, the reasons for the Rams’ quick decline, and whether or not the Patriots can avoid a similar collapse when Brady retires.

Plus, Rachel Holt talks with Real Football Network’s Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan about the current state of the Rams and how they’ll match up with the Patriots.
