FOXBORO, Mass. — Bill Belichick addressed his longstanding relationship with President-elect Donald Trump early in his Wednesday morning news conference. Then, it was on to Seattle.
After saying his much-publicized letter to Trump was about “friendship,” not politics, the New England Patriots coach shut down multiple follow-up questions by repeatedly saying, “Seattle.” The Patriots host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.
More than 10 minutes of football-related questions followed before the conversation shifted back to Trump. A reporter asked Belichick to share a story illustrating his friendship with the businessman-turned-candiadate, to which he replied:
“Well, I could do a lot of that, but really, we’re just trying to focus on Seattle here. It’s a huge game for us. It’s a great challenge. That’s where all our energy’s going.”
Trump was declared the winner of the 2016 presidential election early Wednesday morning, defeating Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in a stunning upset.
