Bruins Wrap: Boston Starts Road Trip With Thrilling 2-1 Win Vs. Coyotes

One down, two to go.

The Boston Bruins began their long three-game road trip out West on Saturday with a 2-1 victory in Arizona over the Coyotes. Ryan Spooner and David Pastrnak scored the B’s two goals, and Tuukka Rask made multiple timely stops to preserve the win.

Here’s how it all went down.

GOALS, GOAL EVERYWHERE
The Bruins were held scoreless in the first period despite having some offensive opportunities thanks to some textbook breakouts, but they finally broke through in the second — twice.

The first goal started with an aggressive forecheck, which David Krejci ultimately came out of with the puck. Krejci then found Zdeno Chara, who fired a shot that deflected off Spooner in front of the net and past Louis Domingue for the score 7:54 into the second.

Chara lost out on the goal, but he still made some history on the play.

Pastrnak followed with his 10th goal of the season less than two minutes later. His score came on a one-timer from the faceoff circle, and Brad Marchand was credited with the assist 9:44 into the frame.

GETTING CLOSE
The Coyotes made it a game in the third period, although it still wasn’t enough in the end.

A David Backes interference gave Arizona a man-advantage 11:13 into the final period, and Radim Vrbata made the B’s pay by scoring his sixth goal of the season.

The opportunities kept coming for the ‘Yotes, but B’s goalie Tuukka Rask came up huge with 31 saves on the night.

UP NEXT
The Bruins will be back on the ice Sunday night for a 7 p.m. ET game in Colorado against the Avalanche. It will be the second of three games on their current trip out West.
