TD Garden was a friendly place Friday for visiting teams.
Hours after the San Antonio Spurs beat the Celtics in a Black Friday thriller, the Bruins were met with a similar fate in a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames with Anton Khudobin in net.
Here’s how it all went down.
FLAMES STRIKE FIRST
The Flames were the clear aggressors in the first period with 13 shots on goal, while the B’s only had five. And those chances finally turned into a goal for Calgary at the 8:36 mark in the frame.
Boston had the puck in its offensive zone, but Calgary corralled it and got it moving in the opposite direction. Center Sam Bennett ended up with the puck and a clear path to the net after passes from teammates T.J. Brodie and Matt Stajan, and he capitalized with his fifth goal of the season.
NOT SO FAST
It appeared the Bruins had tied things up in the second period, but a review changed that.
Bruins forward Brad Marchand pushed Flames defenseman Mark Giordano, who knocked down Calgary goalie Chad Johnson and left a wide open net for the B’s. Patrice Bergeron then took advantage of the opportunity, or so we thought. A replay determined Marchand had in fact interfered on the play, resulting in no goal.
BACK AND FORTH THEY GO
Boston eventually got an equalizer on a David Pastrnak goal at the 5:55 mark in the third period.
John-Michael Liles put the play in motion with a shot from the point, although it never got through the multiple players in front of Johnson. That was OK for the B’s, though, as Pastrnak picked up the loose puck and scored his 12th goal of the season and his second in as many nights.
But that euphoria was short lived. The Flames got their lead right back on an Alex Chiasson goal with 12:55 remaining in the frame. The forward had a wide open net to shoot on after a pretty feed from Giordano from behind the goal line.
UP NEXT
After a hectic stretch of three games in four days, the B’s will have only a day to recover before they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at TD Garden.
