You didn’t really think Conor McGregor was going to take Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s criticism sitting down, did you?
Mayweather ripped McGregor on Monday, telling TMZ Sports that comparing The Notorious’ accomplishments in UFC to his accomplishments in boxing is “total disrespect.” McGregor, who never has been one to shy away from a verbal altercation, fired back one day later when asked by TMZ Sports about Mayweather’s harsh words.
“Say it to face,” the UFC featherweight/lightweight champion declared.
McGregor didn’t stop there, either. The Notorious hit up a New York nightclub Tuesday night, at which point he hopped in the DJ booth and called out Mayweather.
“Floyd’s not ready for this,” McGregor said. “Much respect to Floyd. He’s a solid businessman on what he’s been able to do. He’s a (f——) animal at what he’s been able to do. But as far as real fighting, as far as true, pure unarmed combat, Floyd don’t want none of this.”
There was a point — it’s still going, obviously, to some extent — where it seemed possible, albeit a long shot, that McGregor and Mayweather someday would square off. McGregor elaborated amid Tuesday’s call-out that Mayweather wants a boxing match rather a “fight,” though. And to throw down between the ropes instead of in the octagon, McGregor apparently would want to be paid $100 million.
