Is Conor McGregor too good for UFC?
The Notorious made history on Nov. 12 at UFC 205, dispatching Eddie Alvarez to become UFC’s first-ever two-division champion (lightweight and featherweight). McGregor announced he won’t fight again until next May at the earliest, but that certainly doesn’t mean he’s staying quiet.
The boisterous Irishman proved that point Wednesday with a tweet for the ages.
There’s confidence, and then there’s “using a large stack of money as a phone to call out an entire sport” confidence.
Yet McGregor has backed up his bravado in the octagon, and others have taken notice. Rumors have floated recently of The Notorious making a foray into the world of professional wrestling for a WWE stint, and McGregor’s agent, Audie Attar, fanned the flames of those rumors Tuesday.
“I think it’s all about business, man,” Attar said on ESPN’s “5ive Rounds” podcast, via ESPN.com. “If (WWE) is going to come with an offer, we are willing to entertain it. We are here. Have their people call his people — which is me. We can have a conversation.”
ESPN.com’s Brian Campbell points out WWE’s WrestleMania 33 card, scheduled for April 2 in Orlando, could be an option for McGregor during his UFC hiatus. And WWE star/ COO Triple H, who was at UFC 205 in New York, said he’d love to see the 28-year-old join him in the ring.
McGregor does have a few options for his next UFC fight, but judging by his latest tweet, he’s not taking any of them too seriously.
