The Chicago Cubs’ Game 7 and World Series-clinching victory over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night helped shine light on numerous passionate Cubs fans. But few fans, if any, showed more dedication than Wayne Williams.

Williams drove 600 miles from his home in North Carolina to his father’s gravesiteĀ in Indiana to uphold a promise that the two would watch the Cubs play in the World Series together. Williams’ father, also named Wayne Williams, was a Navy veteran who died at age 53 in 1980, and he, like so many others, didn’t see a Cubs championship in his lifetime.

But thanks to his son, and a smartphone, the two were able to listen to the Cubs end the 108-year-drought together.

Here’s the full story from WTHR-TV.

While Williams made the long trip, he was a little uncertain when asked if his father was watching along with him.

“Knowing him, no,” said Williams. “He was a hell raiser, baby.Ā He was a hell raiser.”
