It might be time to rename the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award.

For the eighth time in his career, David Ortiz was honored with the award for best designated hitter in Major League Baseball on Wednesday. If you’re keeping track, that means he’s won the award three more times than the person it’s named after.

The Boston Red Sox DH certainly earned it, as he arguably had the greatest final offensive season in MLB history. He hit .315 with 38 home runs and 127 RBIs, and he led the majors with a 1.021 OPS, 48 doubles, a .620 slugging percentage and 87 extra-base hits.

That’s one heck of a way to end a career.
