It’s been difficult to decipher what actually led to the New England Patriots trading Jamie Collins to the Cleveland Browns about a month ago.
Was it strictly a football move? Was the trade made due to contractual demands and/or with Collins’ impending free agency in mind? Did Collins clash with the Patriots’ coaching staff? Maybe it was a combination of everything? Who knows?
In any event, it was an unusual break-up, and things only got more unusual Monday when Collins took a jab at his former team … or did he?
Collins posted the following to his Instagram account, tagging Anthony Johnson, a former Patriots teammate who was signed by the New York Jets off New England’s practice squad earlier this month:
It’s impossible to know the exact intent of Collins’ Instagram post without him clarifying. Perhaps it’s nothing all. But the timing is interesting — the Patriots defeated the Jets 22-17 on Sunday — and many of the responses have come from fans drawing a connection to his New England departure.
Hey, as long as he’s happy, right?
