Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott once again stole the show for Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. But the team honored Dez Bryant after the game, and with good reason.
Bryant caught six passes for 116 yards and hauled in a 50-yard touchdown in Dallas’ thrilling 35-30 win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Most importantly, he did all that just one day after his father, MacArthur Hatton, died of an undisclosed illness.
It obviously was an emotional day for Bryant, who made the decision to play Sunday despite the family tragedy. In the locker room, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett paid his wideout a touching tribute.
Bryant didn’t speak with the media after the game, but team owner Jerry Jones offered his sentiments.
“I’m going to say something that he may not say,” Jones said via the Dallas Morning News. “If he would want to be anyplace in the world after finding out he just lost his daddy, he would want to be around these people in this locker room and their love. He was in the right spot (Sunday).”
The two-time Pro Bowler’s teammates also had his back.
“He was out there balling for his dad,” wide receiver Cole Beasley said.
Bryant, whose 116 receiving yards were his most in a game since Week 10 of 2014, posted a moving message to his late father on Instagram on Sunday night.
This certainly will be a weekend Bryant won’t forget.
