The vibe in the New England Patriots and Seahawks Seahawks’ respective film rooms will be far different this week as each team reviews the tape from their last matchup, Super Bowl XLIX.
The Patriots beat the Seahawks 28-24 in University Phoenix Stadium on a last-second interception by New England quarterback Malcolm Butler, who made an incredible play to pick off Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. Both Wilson and Butler are among the players still on their respective squads.
The Patriots have 24 players remaining on their 53-man roster from the 2014 team. They have an additional three players who either were on injured reserve in 2014, are on the physically unable to perform list now or were on the 2014 and are on the 2016 practice squad.
The Seahawks have 22 players left on their 53-man roster from the 2014 team. They have an additional four players who either are on injured reserve now or were in 2014.

Head coach Bill Belichick, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia still are on board with the Patriots. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell remain in Seattle. The Seahawks’ defensive coordinator in 2014, Dan Quinn, took a head coach job with the Atlanta Falcons. Seattle’s current defensive coordinator, Kris Richards, was defensive backs coach in 2014.
Because of that continuity, the Patriots plan to check the film closely from their latest Super Bowl win.
“Yeah, we’ll definitely take a look at it,” Belichick said Monday. “There’s a lot of carryover, especially on their defense, from many of the players that we played against but there is also carryover on offense. Certainly from some of the key players — the quarterback and the receivers — and the kicking game with the specialists so there’s a decent amount of carryover.
“I would say that their scheme, what they do hasn’t changed dramatically. Ours probably hasn’t changed dramatically either. Again, we have a couple of different players but fundamentally we do a lot of the same things. I think there’s definitely some relevance to that game. I’m sure they’ll look at it. We’ve certainly seen it. I think it’s relevant. Now again, there has been a lot of football played since then so I don’t think it’s — again, just one piece in the puzzle. I don’t think it’s the whole puzzle.”
