FOXBORO, Mass. — Glenn Gronkowski was back in the New England Patriots’ locker room Wednesday after being re-signed to the team’s practice squad for the third time this season.

The 23-year-old fullback’s return came one day after the Patriots released practice-squad tight end Kennard Backman.

Gronkowski, the younger brother of star New England tight end Rob Gronkowski, has yet to play in a game for the Patriots or even earn a promotion to the team’s 53-man roster. He’s been released from the practice squad twice — once on Oct. 17 and again last Monday.

The Patriots visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
