Jamaal Charles Injury: Chiefs Star Could Return This Season Despite Knee Surgery

Jamaal Charles won’t play for the Kansas City Chiefs in their Week 9 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but we might see him on the field again at some point this season.

The veteran running back had knee surgery Wednesday, but NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport provided an encouraging report on Charles’ status.

Charles had knee surgery last season, too, and he didn’t make his 2016 debut until Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers as a result. He has tallied 40 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries, along with two receptions for 14 yards through three games this season.

Luckily for the Chiefs, they are just a half-game out of first place in the AFC West with a 5-2 record.

From a fantasy perspective, owners shouldn’t expect much production from Charles the rest of the campaign, even if he returns.

Kansas City has capable running backs Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West to fill in for Charles, as well as new signing Bishop Sankey. It’s unlikely Charles would receive enough carries to be fantasy relevant when/if he comes back during the regular season.
