It turns out Jamie Collins wasn’t as into studying football as some of his other New England Patriots teammates.
The linebacker, whom the Patriots traded to the Cleveland Browns on Monday for a compensatory third-round draft pick, did an interview with Improper Bostonian back in September, and he revealed something about his football-watching habits. Or, should we say his lack of football-watching habits.
“Neither,” Collins said when asked if he prefers watching the NFL or college football. “I didn’t grow up watching football, and I still don’t. Me and Chandler Jones have talked about this since I first got up here. I never watched football. I never thought I’d be here, and I’d rather play video games. I don’t really want to watch it.”
It’s understandable that someone who plays football almost every day for around six or seven months of the year would want a break from it while he’s at home, but it’s also an intriguing fact considering coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots are big on watching game film and studying other teams. That’s not to say it’s the reason the Pats traded Collins, but it could have been a small factor in the decision.
So what does Collins watch instead of football?
“I’ll probably find a movie to watch,” Collins told Improper Bostonian. “Maybe a late-night talk show. Or ‘CSI.’ I’ll put that on, Miami or New York.”
