Trade rumors surrounding Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson really picked up this week when a shaky report gained traction after CSNNE analyst Brian Scalabrine discussed it on SiriusXM Radio.

Steve Kerr dismissed the rumors earlier in the week, and Warriors general manager Bob Myers offered his own reaction when asked about it during a recent radio interview on 95.7 The Game.

“We’re not trading Klay,” Myers said, as transcribed by The Mercury News. “That’s the short answer.”

He later added: “I wish there was a little bit more discipline because you know what it causes: I gotta talk to Klay Thompson. I gotta talk to his agent. And I get it, it’s part of the job. And there are times where rumors have weight to them and meaning, but I think it requires a little bit more diligence then just throwing stuff out there.”

The Warriors don’t have to trade Thompson, who’s one of the best long-range shooters and one-on-one defenders in the NBA. He also has a very team-friendly contract that includes an annual salary less than $20 million for the next two seasons.

Golden State does have to re-sign reigning MVP Stephen Curry, whose contract expires at the end of the season. But trading Thompson doesn’t have to happen for Curry to re-sign.

Still, it’s an interesting rumor to monitor as the Warriors try to assemble the best possible roster in hopes of reclaiming the NBA title.
