The struggles Chris Archer endured in 2016 haven’t scared away potential suitors.

The Washington Nationals are interested in acquiring the the Tampa Bay Rays pitcher, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday, according to ESPN. Washington reportedly has inquired about Archer’s availability, as well as other Tampa Bay pitchers’.

Archer went 9-19 with a 4.02 ERA last season, but his age (28) and contract ($25.5 million over six years, plus two option years) make him an attractive option for Washington, which is keen to bolster its already-deep rotation.

But the extent of Washington’s interest in Archer depends on other factors.

Rosenthal makes it clear that the Nationals have their eyes on Chris Sale, who represents one of the biggest potential catches on this winter’s hot stove. The Chicago Whites Sox haven’t had any serious talks with Washington about Sale, according to USA TODAY’s Bob Nightingale.

Meaning Archer might want to prepare himself this offseason for a new adventure in 2017.
