Rich Hill appears to be drawing plenty of interest on the open market.
The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Houston Astros all are in full pursuit of the free-agent left-hander, according to ESPN’s Jim Bowden. The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles reportedly are believed to be in the mix to a lesser degree.
Hill is coming off a 2016 season in which he went 12-5 with a 2.12 ERA and 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings in 20 starts split between the Dodgers and Oakland Athletics. He’s widely considered one of the best options available in a weak starting pitching market, so the veteran lefty could land a sizable contract despite turning 37 years old in March.
Hill’s career revival began in 2015, when he went 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA in four starts for the Red Sox down the stretch. The Massachusetts native has pitched for the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Indians, Yankees and Orioles in addition to the Red Sox, Dodgers and A’s in his 12-year major league career.
