Mookie Betts’ Defensive Evolution Arguably His Most Exciting Development

The Boston Red Sox have a budding star on their hands in 24-year-old outfielder Mookie Betts.

After earning his first All-Star nod last summer, Betts recently was named a finalist for the American League MVP award and Tuesday won his first Gold Glove award for defensive excellence at his position.

As The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham pointed out, this is a player who came up through the minors as a second baseman, shifted to center field in his first full season in the major leagues, moved to right field in 2016 and thrived.

That’s quite an accomplishment.

Listen to more of Abraham and Adam Pellerin’s thoughts on the award in the “NESN Sports Today” video above.
