David Ortiz’s retirement officially went into effect Tuesday, and one of the first things he’ll get to do is celebrate his birthday.

The former Boston Red Sox designated hitter turned 41 on Friday, and plenty of people have reached out to Ortiz on Twitter to wish him a happy birthday. One of those people was Hall of Fame pitcher and former Red Sox teammate Pedro Martinez, whose message to Big Papi didn’t disappoint.

Martinez and Ortiz played together for just two seasons, but the pitcher was the reason the Red Sox signed Big Papi, who was a struggling free agent after the Minnesota Twins released him following the 2002 season. The two have remained close friends since helping Boston end its 86-year World Series drought in 2004.
