Rex Ryan has a way of ticking off his opponents, and you can add Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks to that list.
The Bills head coach got all wound up in the third quarter of Buffalo’s “Monday Night Football” matchup in Seattle after Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman stared him down on the sideline following an interception.
That play came on the heels of Sherman plowing into Bills kicker Dan Carpenter at the end of the first half, and after the Seahawks’ 31-25 win, Ryan called out the brash Seattle corner.
“He’s mean-mugging like he’s always doing and whatever,” Ryan told reporters, via NFL.com. “… Then he’s over on the sideline basically taunting us, so I had some words. I think I said ‘You’re too good a player to act like an ass.’ I think that’s what I said.”
Naturally, Carroll was asked to respond to Ryan’s comments during a Tuesday radio appearance on 710 ESPN Seattle. The Seahawks coach said what we’d imagine a few other NFL coaches have thought over the years.
“I just wish he’d coach his own team,” Carroll said, via ESPN.com. “Just coach your own guys.”
Ryan, of course, got in one final volley.
“Next time I’m asked a question about one of Pete’s players, I should ask him what the appropriate response is,” Ryan said Tuesday during a conference call.
Ryan always has been able to talk a big game, but he isn’t exactly walking the walk. Monday’s loss dropped the Bills to 4-5 and third place in the AFC East.
