EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — You all know the Butt Fumble. On Sunday, Quincy Enunwa gave us the Butt Touchdown.
Enunwa’s entry wasn’t a football folly, however. It was a spectacular touchdown catch over New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler in the fourth quarter of a tight divisional contest.
In the sequence in question, the New York Jets wide receiver elevated to haul in a 22-yard pass from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick but initially appeared to land out of bounds.
Officials reviewed the play, however, and determined Enunwa’s rear end had landed in bounds in the end zone. The touchdown was awarded, putting the Jets ahead 17-13 with 10:17 remaining.
Enunwa enjoyed a highly productive evening, catching five passes on five targets for a game-high 109 yards, but his Jets left MetLife Stadium disappointed. A Stephen Gostkowski field goal and a Malcolm Mitchell touchdown catch put the Patriots back ahead late, and a Trey Flowers fumble recovery put the finishing touches on a 22-17 victory for the visitors.
