Was Sunday night’s showdown a preview of things to come?
The Seahawks held on for a 31-24 win over the Patriots in their first game against each other since New England defeated Seattle in Super Bowl XLIX. With both clubs again looking like two of the NFL’s best, it’s reasonable to wonder whether they’ll meet again a few months from now at Super Bowl LI in Houston.
“If they keep playing like this, I’m guessing we’ll see them again,” Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said after Sunday’s game, per WEEI.com. “They are well-coached.”
New England entered Sunday’s Week 10 game as the heavy favorite, likely the result of several factors, including the Patriots coming off a bye and the Seahawks traveling across the country on short rest following a Monday night win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 9. But Sherman — and surely plenty of players on both sides — expected a close, hard-fought battle. And that’s exactly what unfolded.
“I think it’s as much of a measuring stick from them as it is for us,” Sherman said, per WEEI.com. “I think our two teams are probably the measuring stick for the league. A game like this is putting two great competitive teams together and you get a slobberknocker like this.”
Perhaps we won’t have to wait long for the next installment of this budding interconference rivalry.
