Rob Gronkowski Reportedly Not Expected To Play For Patriots Vs. Jets
Rob Gronkowski is expected to miss his second consecutive game for the New England Patriots, according to a report Wednesday by ESPN’s Dianna Russini.
Russini, citing sources, reported the All-Pro tight end isn’t expected to play Sunday against the New York Jets and that “(t)he Patriots staff is prepping the offense without him.”
Gronkowski missed Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers after suffering a chest injury during New England’s Week 10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He also sat out the Patriots’ first two regular-season games as he recovered from a hamstring injury sustained during training camp.
Despite playing in just seven of the team’s 10 games — and being limited in two of those seven — Gronkowski leads the Patriots in receiving yards with 540. He also leads the NFL in yards per reception (21.6) and is tied for seventh in the league in catches of 20-plus yards (12).
The Patriots have three tight ends on their 53-man roster: Gronkowksi, Martellus Bennett and Matt Lengel. Bennett played 76 offensive snaps (95 percent) this past Sunday with Gronkowski sidelined, while Lengel played just six (8 percent) in his Patriots debut.
