Nine years have passed since Sean Taylor’s untimely death, but the football world still remembers him fondly.
Tributes to the former Washington Redskins defensive back flowed Sunday on the anniversary of his death. The Redskins and current NFL stars used social media to remind Taylor’s family and friends they love and miss him.
Taylor died on Nov. 27, 2007 — one day after intruders broke into his suburban Miami home and shot him.
The Redskins drafted Taylor with the fifth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He soon became one of the NFL’s best and hardest-hitting safeties, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2006 and 2007 (posthumously). No player has worn No. 21 for Washington since Taylor’s death.

Taylor also inspired Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley, Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Torrey Smith.
Rapper Wale, who hails from Washington D.C., remembered Taylor, as well.
