Detroit Red Wings forward Steve Ott destroyed Tampa Bay Lightning forward Cedric Paquette with a monstrous hit along the end boards in the second period of Tuesday’s game at Joe Louis Arena.

Paquette was shaken up for a bit by the hit and didn’t get up immediately. Brian Boyle came to his defense and challenged Ott to a fight.

The 6-foot-6 Boyle had a distinct size advantage, but Ott held his own.

Ott has played on the edge his entire career, and he’s not afraid to dish out punishment with a huge hit. The veteran forward has been suspended multiple times in his NHL career, but this hit probably won’t lead to further discipline.
