The Boston Bruins have been playing well of late, and much of that success can be attributed to Tuukka Rask’s work between the pipes.
Rask was named the NHL’s “First Star” of the week on Monday after posting a perfect 4-0 record last week. The Bruins goaltender posted a 0.75 goals against average, a .970 save percentage and recorded two shutouts as Boston won four of its five games in that span.
His success last week included starting both games of a road back-to-back over the weekend. The Finnish netminder saved 31 of 32 shots in a 2-1 win Saturday against the Arizona Coyotes, and he stopped all 20 shots he faced Sunday in a 2-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
Rask, who owns a 10-1 record this season for the 10-6 Bruins, is tied for the league lead in wins (10) and shutouts (3). He ranks third in goals against average (1.54) and fourth in save percentage (.945).
The Bruins enter Monday’s action sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division standings with 20 points, and Rask could find himself in the Vezina Trophy discussion this season if he keeps playing the way he has to this point.
