The New England Patriots visited the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, so it was fitting that two Bay Area natives produced their first touchdown of the day.

After New England’s defense forced a three-and-out on the game’s opening drive, San Mateo, Calif., native Tom Brady immediately got to work marching the Patriots down the field. The quarterback capped a six-play, 27-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver — and Redwood City, Calif., native — Julian Edelman.

It was just the second touchdown catch of the season for Edelman, who entered the game as the Patriots’ leader in receptions with 48.

Kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed the ensuing extra point — continuing a bizarre trend that swept the NFL on Sunday — forcing the Patriots to settle for an early 6-0 lead.
