The Chicago White Sox aren’t offering any sale prices on their ace.
Chris Sale, who’s a perennial All-Star with a 3.00 career ERA and 1,244 strikeouts over seven seasons (five as a starter), is under team control for three more years with a salary that’s well under market value at $13 million a season. So, naturally, the White Sox want a lot in return for a deal that sweet.
An “interested general manager” told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal on Sunday that Chicago’s asking price is “through the roof” but admitted it’s appropriate. It seems unlikely the White Sox would take only prospects for Sale, too, as general manager Rick Hahn held on to the lefty at the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline hoping teams would be more likely to give up major league talent in the offseason.
Rosenthal gave some examples of what teams reportedly interested would have to give up for Sale, and that list included talent like Boston Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi, Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor, Washington Nationals shortstop/center fielder Trea Turner and Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson.
Major League Baseball’s hot stove has been pretty cool so far, but there’s still plenty of offseason left for things to heat up regarding a potential trade for Sale.
