Eric Dickerson arguably is the greatest player in Los Angeles Rams history, but the team apparently wants nothing to do with him.
During a radio appearance Monday morning on 750 AM in Los Angeles, the Hall of Fame running back claimed the Rams reached out to him specifically and told him not to attend the team’s home games.
“We joke about it on the show, but I did get a call from upper management,” Dickerson said, as transcribed by For the Win. “Somebody from upper management called me and said I make the players feel uncomfortable about some of the stuff I’ve said on the radio. And they don’t want me on the sidelines. Basically, they don’t want me at the games.”
Dickerson recently criticized the Rams for their handling of No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff, telling Sirius XM NFL Radio earlier this month that the team “(doesn’t) have the right coaches in place” to help the rookie quarterback succeed.
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher denied the team banned Dickerson from games, telling reporters Monday he’d “welcome” the 56-year-old to games, practices and meetings. But Dickerson doubled down, claiming it actually was Fisher who called him a couple weeks ago and told him to steer clear of the Rams’ sideline.
“Players feel uncomfortable with you coming on the sidelines, some of the stuff you said about the team, about coaches and the players,” Dickerson claims Fisher told him, via ESPN.com. “And as long as I’m head coach, we’re not going to have that. You’re not going to be saying stuff. You’re not going to be coming to the sidelines as long as I’m head coach here.”
And apparently Dickerson has no problem with that.
“I won’t be at the Coliseum as long as Fisher is coaching,” Dickerson said Monday, via ESPN.com. “I’m a man of my word, and if I tell you something, I’m going to do it.”
Avoiding Rams games might not be the worst idea, considering the team is 4-7 after losing six of its last seven games.
