Anthony Pettis Misses Weight For UFC 206 Title Fight Vs. Max Holloway

The main card for UFC 206 just took another big hit.

Anthony Pettis missed weight at Friday’s weigh-ins for his UFC 206 interim featherweight title fight against Max Holloway. He was three pounds over the allowed weight of 145 pounds for the featherweight division.

The fight still will take place between Pettis and Holloway, but ESPN reports it only will be an interim title fight for Holloway. In other words, if Pettis wins, he won’t get an interim belt. He also will be forced to relinquish 20 percent of his purse.

Pettis is the former lightweight champion and only has one featherweight fight under his belt, a victory over Charles Oliveira in August. Pettis becomes the first fighter to miss weight for a championship fight since Travis Lutter missed weight for the middleweight title fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 67 back in 2007.

The hiccup has been just one of a handful of headaches Dana White has had to deal with leading up to UFC 206. The Pettis-Holloway bout was promoted to an interim title fight after the light heavyweight championship bout between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson was called off when Cormier pulled out due to an injury.

Also, a previously scheduled bout between Tim Kennedy and Rashad Evans was altered after Evans pulled out due to health issues. Kelvin Gastelum, who missed weight at UFC 205, was tabbed to take Evans’ place and fight Kennedy.
