FOXBORO, Mass. — NFL head coaches hold a conference call with the opposing team’s media each week, and sometimes these conference calls can be illuminating. While reporters exclusively covering the New England Patriots focus on the minutiae, reporters from other cities sometimes will ask broader questions.
The answers of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick can vary on these topics. He gave a very Belichick-ian response Wednesday when asked by Denver Broncos reporters what the “Patriot Way” means to him.
“I’ve never used that term so I don’t know,” Belichick said.
The “Patriot Way” is a term used by the media, and some players, to describe various aspects of the Patriots’ success and overall demeanor, but it’s not shocking Belichick has never used it himself, just as it was unsurprising the head coach had no time to discuss Tom Brady banners hung over Gillette Stadium over the summer.
Belichick focuses on football, not catchy phrases or stadium decorations.
