Brock Lesnar will need to stick to WWE for a while.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday handed Lesnar a one-year suspension for failing two drug tests around his UFC 200 fight against Mark Hunt. Lesnar, who returned to mixed martial arts in July for the first time since December 2011, also was fined $250,000.
Lesnar defeated Hunt at UFC 200, but the win has been changed to a “no contest.” Hunt was very vocal in criticizing Lesnar after news broke of the failed drug tests.
Lesnar tested positive for the anti-estrogen drug clomiphene in a prefight test taken June 28. He then tested positive for the same substance in his fight-night test July 9, but he wasn’t pulled from the card because the results of his prefight test weren’t available on fight night.
It’s unclear at this point whether Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE champion, will return to MMA at some point after his ban is lifted. His one-year suspension, which came as part of a settlement agreement, is retroactive to July 9.
