Charles Woodson Still Can’t Get Over Tuck Rule Game: Tom Brady Owes Me

Fifteen years later and we’re still talking about it. Well, at least Charles Woodson is.

In the latest installment of the NFL Network’s “A Football Life,” the nine-time Pro-Bowler recalls the infamous “tuck rule” play that resulted in devastation for the Oakland Raiders against the New England Patriots.

“Game over, or so we thought,” he said. “The more time went on, the more everybody on the sidelines was like, ‘I think we’re about to get screwed.’ That’s the worst call in the history of … all sports. All the air was let out of the Oakland Raiders. After that happened, we never recovered.”

Despite being teammates at Michigan, Woodson says he’s never spoken with Tom Brady about the play.

“Tom owes me,” he said. “But you know what? Me and Tom have never talked about that play. And so I imagine maybe sometime, maybe I’ll just sit down with him in a lonely bar somewhere, just me and him, and I’ll just ask him point blank: ‘Tom, just tell me, if you could just tell everybody in the world what it was, what was it?’ I know what he would say.”

It’s safe to say Brady is pretty content with how things played out. The Patriots won the game and went on a historic run of four Super Bowl championships in 13 years.
