Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott didn’t play very well in Sunday night’s 10-7 loss to the New York Giants, but it won’t cost him his job.
The rookie would need to be unavailable to play for backup Tony Romo to get his starting job back, according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Prescott completed just 17 of 37 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions against the Giants. It was the first multi-interception game of his career and his second loss to Big Blue this season.
The Cowboys struggled to move the ball all night, and their only touchdown came on a busted coverage by the Giants’ secondary.
Still, Prescott has been brilliant overall, throwing 20 touchdown passes with just four interceptions in 13 games. There’s no need to overreact, even with a player of Romo’s caliber on the bench.
We could see Romo play over the next few weeks if Dallas clinches the NFC’s No. 1 playoff seed and chooses to rest important players to avoid injury entering the playoffs, but putting him in the starting lineup because Prescott isn’t playing at a high level doesn’t make much sense.
Props to Jerry Jones for not panicking, and making a bold and likely foolish decision.
