That pesky injury bug bit another New England Patriots offensive weapon when wide receiver Danny Amendola limped off the Gillette Stadium field following a punt return in Sunday’s 26-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Amendola suffered a high ankle sprain, a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. The Patriots will make sure he’s ready for the playoffs, according to Rapoport.

Amendola has 23 receptions for 243 yards with four touchdowns this season to go along with 18 punt returns for 121 yards and five kick returns for 129 yards. He’s played just 32.8 percent of Patriots offensive snaps this season as the Patriots have saved him for key situations. Among Amendola’s 23 catches, 14 have come on third down and 15 have resulted in a first down or touchdown.

The Patriots will move forward with Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell at wide receiver. They’ll likely sign a free agent to give the team needed offensive depth.
