It’s no secret Los Angeles Rams legend Eric Dickerson wasn’t a fan of head coach Jeff Fisher, who was fired Monday despite signing a contract extension earlier this season.
Dickerson went on ESPN on Monday and was asked about who could take over as the team’s next head coach. His answer was far from a surprise.
“If I had a choice, I would take Jim Harbaugh,” Dickerson said, as transcribed by ProFootballTalk. “I don’t know if he wants to leave Michigan, that’s on him, but I know what he did at Stanford. He turned the Niners around, he took Michigan to No. 5 in the country, he’s done so much. You’ve got to look at a track record of a coach.”
Harbaugh is a common name in the NFL head-coaching rumor mill, despite enjoying plenty of success since taking over as Wolverines coach in 2015. He’s 20-5 at Michigan and has restored the program to its former national powerhouse status.
Still, the NFL is where most coaches want to be, and Harbaugh enjoyed a pretty successful, albeit short run with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 through 2014. The 49ers made three consecutive NFC Championship Game appearances from 2011 through 2013, and they nearly beat the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.
The Rams are a mess and likely would take some time to fix, but it’s not like their roster is completely void of talent. Running back Todd Gurley and a pretty good defense overall is not a bad foundation.
