Perhaps Nick Saban takes football a little too seriously?
Saban, who’s now the head coach at the University of Alabama, spent two seasons as an NFL head coach with the Miami Dolphins in 2005 and 2006. It’s unsurprising to hear Saban didn’t mess around during his first (and only) NFL stint, but former Dolphins wide receiver P.K. Sam took to Twitter on Wednesday to relay a story that’s rather troubling if true.
According to Sam, who was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round in 2004, Saban cut him from the Dolphins because he flew home to visit his dying father. In other words, Sam chose family over football and was punished as a result.
Several people accused Sam of making up the story Wednesday, and the ex-NFL wideout responded to multiple Twitter users with details regarding the supposed incident. You can check out Sam’s Twitter feed here, but basically, he isn’t too happy about the lack of loyalty shown by Saban.
Sam earned a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots in his rookie season after appearing in two regular-season games. He then bounced around on NFL practice squads and in the CFL, clearly with some lingering ill will toward at least one of his former head coaches.
