Will Conor McGregor Return To Featherweight After Belt Is Unified?

UFC fans are always wondering whom Conor McGregor will fight next. The result of the Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis bout at UFC 206 may have set up a couple of interesting potential rematches for “The Notorious” down the road.

Holloway, whom McGregor defeated in his UFC debut back in 2013, won the interim featherweight belt after pummeling Pettis in a third-round TKO in the main event Saturday night in Toronto. He will likely fight Jose Aldo, whom McGregor knocked out in historic fashion at UFC 194, in a unification bout sometime in early 2017.

So will the winner of the Holloway-Aldo fight choose to defend the featherweight belt in a rematch against McGregor?

Perhaps.

While McGregor has a plethora of potential opponents he could face at the lightweight division where he currently holds the title belt, he wasn’t the happiest camper when he was forced to give up his featherweight belt just a few weeks after becoming the UFC’s first ever dual-weight champion.

So maybe he’ll feel the itch to officially reclaim the title of dual-weight champion. If he decides to do this, he’ll likely fight the winner of Aldo and Holloway.

But will McGregor even bother fighting two guys he has dismantled in the past?

Why not? Both certainly deserve the shot.

More than three years have passed since McGregor defeated Holloway, and the Hawaiian has won 10 consecutive fights.

Meanwhile, Aldo had defended his featherweight belt seven times before losing to McGregor in a historic 13-second knockout at UFC 194. Since then, Aldo has asked for a rematch and has said that his loss was an “accident.”

Both rematches would be scintillating, to say the least. With McGregor taking some time off for the birth of his child, it’ll be interesting to see how the featherweight and lightweight divisions play out and what route he decides to take.
