Money is not a thing to John Daly. Or maybe it just didn’t mean much to the maverick golfer in his younger days.

The tale Daly told Thursday during his appearance on ESPN’s “Dan Le Batard Show” might go down as the most John Daly story ever. He revealed he once chucked $55,000 cash out of a window of a car he was driving in order to prove a point to his ex-wife.

“I won like $55,000 in the casino and I said (to Sherri), if you’re going to yell and scream at me about this, I threw it over the bridge going over to Memphis from Arkansas,” Daly said on the Le Batard show, per GolfWeek. “I threw all the money out the (car) window and said, ‘You know what, if you want that money, you can go find it. But let me tell you something, you don’t have a job. You’re not working. I’m supporting you, I’m paying all the bills.’

“My buddy (then) took her to a McDonald’s drive-thru and got her two cheeseburgers and some french fries and a soda, and (it was like), ‘OK, this is how you can live from now on if that’s the way you want it.’ ”

Sherri, Daly’s fourth ex-wife, shared the same story in her 2011 book “Teed Off: My Life as a Player’s Wife on the PGA Tour,” claiming she later went back and retrieved most of the money.

If there’s a lesson to be learned from all this, other than the fact Daly isn’t too worried about money, we don’t know what it is. Hopefully Sherri does.
