FOXBORO, Mass — The New England Patriots aren’t linked to the latest Deflategate, but they do have a few comments on the matter.
Shortly after Tom Brady called Deflategate 2 “inconsequential” during his weekly pre-“Monday Night Football” interview with Westwood One’s Jim Gray, Patriots president Jonathan Kraft offered his thoughts on the current Pittsburgh Steelers/New York Giants controversy.
“You can probably figure out what my personal feelings are on it,” Kraft said on 98.5 The Sports Hub, as transcribed by the Providence Journal’s Mark Daniels. “I’ll say this, in all of our businesses, we tell our managers that you can makes mistake and make errors, but if the same mistakes become a pattern then that’s a problem. I understand that it was cold, the wind chills were below freezing and it was a chilly day and that the balls measured somewhere in the low-to-mid 11s. If the balls were set at mind range, 12-13, that would make a lot of sense.
“If that was the case, I think the league has now learned what the Ideal Gas Law is. I think the league has also probably learned that when situations like that come up, it’s good to get correct information out so they obviously did that.”
In case you haven’t heard, FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Sunday that the Giants found two underinflated footballs used by the Steelers in their Week 13 showdown. A later report by ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio said the two footballs were 11.4 and 11.8 PSI, both of which were below the 12.5 legal limit, but the NFL already had released a statement seemingly brushing off the controversy.
